There are activities that can be planned in advance, such as a hot-air balloon flight over the châteaux, a canoe trip on the Cher or the Loire, a round of golf at the Château de Cheverny… and then there are the impromptu activities that you can start anywhere:
During your stay at Au Détour des Châteaux, there’s no need to look far – the estate is criss-crossed by a GR/GRP trail called “de château en château entre la Loire et le Cher” (from castle to castle between the Loire and Cher rivers).
For horse riders, this same GR is linked to the D’Artagnan route, which runs from Lupiac, the birthplace of the king’s most famous musketeer, to Maastricht, where he died.

So many waterways around which are located numerous castles. So, you might say, it’s because the kings and lords were afraid of running out of water!
Not at all, it was because of “those damned English” who, in the 15th century, held Paris the capital, so King Charles VII settled in the Loire Valley where many lords were loyal to him.
And so it was that for 2 centuries, the kings of France lived there and grabbed the trowel to build all those big, unheatable buildings… to our great delight today.

Yes, the Loire Valley is France’s leading wine tourism region, and the reputation of its cheeses (Crottin de Chavignol, Selle sur Cher…) is well established. Of course, Sologne asparagus, black truffles, Mara des Bois strawberries and the region’s charcuterie are not to be outdone….
But we’re talking about the « Tarte Tatin » !!!

The fourth most beautiful zoo in the world according to Tripadvisor, Zoo Parc de Beauval’s success continues to grow thanks to its commitment to the conservation and preservation of biodiversity.
Located in the Cher valley in the commune of Saint-Aignan, less than 20 minutes from Au Détour des Châteaux, Zoo Parc de Beauval covers more than 45 hectares and is home to more than 35,000 animals belonging to 800 different species.
They and all their friends are waiting for you. If you don’t want to pace up and down the Park’s aisles, only to find in the evening that you’ve seen it all, we strongly advise you to set aside 2 days to sit serenely in front of these marvels.
Founded in 1980 by bird-lover Françoise Delord, the park has grown considerably since then. Her children Delphine and Rodolphe pay tribute to her with an absolutely breathtaking bird show. Even if you prefer furry creatures, you can’t leave the park without seeing it. The sea lion park is not to be outdone: the equatorial dome, the vivarium… you won’t know where to turn.
And above all, don’t forget to admire our darlings: the Okapis!
